Connecticut Musicians Win Best Song/Single of the Year Award

Out of Many We are One has been awarded the NAMMY Award (Native American Music Award) for Best Song/Single of the Year. Out of Many We Are One was composed and produced by Litchfield, CT residents Thomasina Levy and Joan Spear. The success of this song is the result of a renowned group of musicians and producers who helped to record and distribute this song and its video worldwide. The distinguished team includes Levy, Spear, Joseph Fire Crow, David Darling, Tommy Skarupa, Dave Anderson, Bill Lauf, Rachel Rubin, Galen Brandt and Robert Brereton. All the musicians donated their time and talents. In addition, the production of its inspiring video and CD cover were donated by the teams at and Lou DiBacco & Co, respectively. In-House Marketing donated additional support and media consultation.

The Native American Music Awards, or NAMMYS, was founded and incorporated in 1998. It is a stirring event presenting music in genres ranging from blues to rock to pop to classical to traditional Native American songs and dances. USA Today says it is an event to “take seriously” and Indian Country Today has called it “awesome & incredible.” NAMA continues to proudly honor the outstanding musical achievements of Native American artists from across the country in over 30 Awards categories. This year, the ceremony occurred at the Seneca Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York on Friday, October 7, 2011. For more information about NAMA go to: .

We will learn songs in minor and modal keys andlearn how to play the same song in different keys. Some basic music theory will be discussed. Capos will be available at the dulcimer store.

3:15-4:30 PM Left Hand Embellishments - Left hand embellishments will help you to “dress up” your music once you are familiar with the basics of playing the mountain dulcimer. Once you get some of these techniques under your belt (or should we say “under your left finger tips”?) you can even make a simple song like Bile Them Cabbage Down sound exciting. Techniques we will explore are: Hammering-On, Pulling-Off, Vibrato, Slides, Harmonics.
